Christmas Comes Early

A decent suggestion from Mr Walker (blog here) was for us to take a wee trip into Auld Reekie for some pics of the Christmas lights and a wee wander around.

We abandoned the car in the grassmarket before walking up Victoria street and over to the Royal Mile, a trip to Beyond Words and Stills on Cockburn Street was a highlight with some awesome books flicked through and lots of debate on the images in Stills.

A wander to the top of the mound was next to get the right view before we nipped to the Forest Cafe for a nosey then over the road to get some pizza and a blether, before heading back to the mound to take these images.

The one below was taken first and you can see the difference in the light as it got darker. We also managed to help a lady who was trying to get some for her Xmas card but was shooting at 1/80th sec and f2.8, not the ideal for these type of images.

For anyone interested, these were shot at around 1.3 seconds at f8 using a lensbaby.

Nice work tom - complete twist on taking a nice biscuit tin shot! ever thought about trying a tilt-shift lens? you could maybe hire one and get a more controllable shot for the long exposures!

I did think about a TSE lens but i may just go for one of the more controllable Lensbabies instead
