Digital Imaging

So this section bof my college work relates to "Digital Imaging" the final part of it being to produce 4 pieces of digital artwork which contains a photograph, a vector graphic and a bit text all advertising my own photography business.

I've went with the logo at the top of this page, which consists of a ector graphic made from an initial image of Nicole Findlay and the text, with the idea to keep the IFOTOU in white, or light coloured, and to match the vector and SCOTLAND in a colour featured in the image.

The 4 images shown on this post are my final images and i intend to continue to use this graphic as my signature on future web based work and for future business card and promotional materials.

Restyling

Finally got round to doing more edits from the shoot with Ruth a few weeks back.

Jak and I had been chatting about doing some edits and how Photoshop can assist with the images.

I'm really chuffed with how they look, especially the one at the top of the post.

I'm having a bit of a quiet week or so now to try to relax and get some stuff done for college so it's more likely to be college work or old edits being posted here for the next wee while.

My next booked shoot is the 31st October...

The Final Edit

It's only taken about 3 hours but I've finally managed to get this image into a look that i like.

There's a lot of work in it, even though Ruth is gorgeous and doesn't really need it, it's just that some improvements can be made to the overall look of the image by some cool changes.

I'm really happy with this image, but still undecided if i could put up with the time it takes to do this amount of work for every shoot.

Styles Apart

It's been an interesting few weeks recently and i've really been questioning what my future holds, what kind of work i want to do and the style(s) that suit me best.

A lot of the advice coming is that my work has a distinctive style, which is partly a good thing and partly not as i need to be able to show a god bit variation in my work.

A bit of discussion also led to the fact that i don't do a lot of post production work on my images as i much prefer having my images as close to that shot in camera as possible.

I have however been known in the past to do a bit of it and to demonstrate i editted up the image at the top of this post which was from the same series as the one below.

I really like this look, but is it different to the norm for me?

Group Shoot v2

After Spending a lot of today kicing myself for not taking more shots of Charlie (yes babes you are my Lil Sis too :) ), for not taking more shots of all the other models, and for getting so many out of focus; that'll teach me for using such a shallow DOF then won't it :(

I'm really happy with a LOT of them though and it really was a good day out.

I also managed to catch up with Yvonne Lynch for a wee while when she popped in around 5pm to say hi, she's looking fabulous and working hard, can't wait to get you behind the scenes for me again Yvonne!

Big, HUGE, MASSIVE, thanks to all the models i worked with (Michelle, Melissa, Charlie, Sam and Zoe) and to all the photographers who made it along.

The Group Shoot

Today was the UKPM group shoot and we had such a good day.

I shot with Michelle MacDonald (oh my is she both stunning and great fun), Charlie (surprise surprise), Zoe James (what a cutey) and Sam Crowe (just like my little sister).

Adam, Bruce, Jak and Ricky all acted as VAL's and Jak is responsible for all but Charlie's Make-up and Hair (i think anyway lol )

More edits to come over the next few days along with some Behind the scenes stuff :)

The Model Team

My first shoot with Zoe went really well, and if you click on her name on the list to the right (or on the tags below) you can see more information about that shoot.

A few of the images have been added to Zoe's portfolio over at The Model Team where she's still in the New Faces area.

I also recently shot Ruth McFarlane from this agency and look forward to working with both Zoe and Ruth again in the future and to working with The Model and their models in the future.

I'm hoping to get a few shots of Zoe tomorrow at the group shoot, I will also be working with Zoe again next weekend doing the bridal shoot with Charlie and Sian and another model called Joyce that i've not worked with before.

Exciting times ahead.

Behind the Scenes

Firstly a HUGE thanks to my very good friend Bruce McGuiness for these behind the scenes shots from Sundays Underwater shoot.

The main picture features - (out of the water) Jak Morgan, MUA extraordinaire. In the water from Left to Right are Keith Morrell, Charlie McInally, Ruth McFarlane and myself (with the EWA Marine camera housing).

The images below are slow shutter (approx 0.5 sec) and show myself and one of the young ladies in the water and the light trails from the flash. You can see from these images that the surrounding lighting in the pool was quite dark.

100th Post is an Almighty One

These are some of the edits of yesterdays underwater shoot!

After discussing with my lecturer i went back to the raw files and altered the white balance. They had been shot originally at 6000K but have now been pushed up to around 10250k to take account of the variable artificial lighting and the underwater location.

I'm much much happier with these editted images.

Given the opportunity to do this again i would make a number of changes, not least to a wide angle lens and standing 2 foot from the model, but I'm more than happy with these.

Fun in the Water

I was very pleasantly surprised at how well these have worked.

It was a lot of fun and a lot of hard work getting these images, focussing is a nightmare, trying to find anything in the viewfinder is a nightmare, holding onto over £1000 worth of camera gear in a plastic bag in the water is a nightmare ... maybe you get the picture now?

Well with all that in mind these have turned out stunning, i love the toning and colouring in these (they are all FULL colour, the colours just being desaturated by the water) and were shot in a 1.2 metre deep swimming pool at LA Fitness in Livingston. Many thanks to Alistair for all his help in organising this.

It eventually meant me focussing as closely as possible out of the water then getting it right under the water through a viewfinder where all i could really see was a shadow, then using the multi-shot mode trying to get at least 2 or 3 shots from each attempt to get one where everything looked great.

The gorgeous Charlie, stunning Ruth and handsome Keith were my models for the afternoon and all were patient, mad and fun. Big respect to Ruth for the amount of time she spent under the water, she really was brilliant.

Bruce managed to catch some behind the scenes images which i'll post once i get a copy of them from him.

I think it went well and gives my project the much needed boost it needed.

Testing with Ruth

Today i was lucky enough to be able to do some testing work with Ruth McFarlane from The Model Team in Glasgow.

We started in the studio with the intention of some nice natural headshots, then moved on to the swimming pool where Ruth really excelled (more images in the next post, coming soon).

She was great fun, willing to do some crazy things and needed little direction, i loved working with Ruth.
